In the framework of the DataCite Estonia project, the first hundred unique DOI (Digital Object Identifier) numbers were assigned to the research data in the databank of QSAR models (QsarDB) created at the Institute of Chemistry of the University of Tartu.

UT Treasury and its architects Margit Algus and Margit Aule from KAOS Arhitektid received the annual award for the best interior architecture from the Estonian Culture Capital. The architects' team is also nominated for the Upholder of Tartu Culture award.

On 28 January, the European Commission announced the results of the largest top science award “FET Flagship Initiative“ throughout the years. Scientists from the University of Tartu also participated in the preparation process of the victorious Graphene project. The Graphene project was among the winners of the competition in the field of future and emerging technologies with the prize money of one billion euros. The unique properties of graphene as a revolutionary carbon-based material are studied and utilized within the project.

On 1 December, at the traditional ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 93rd anniversary of Estonia’s national university and held in the university’s assembly hall, the actor, screenwriter and film director Arvo Kruusement, the grand old man of Estonian cinema, was announced as recipient of the 2012 UT award for significant contribution to Estonian national identity.

On Wednesday, 5. december you are welcome to participate and listen talk by Madis Pink from Mobi Solutions. He will talk about the "Security of Android Platform". The aim of the presentation is to give an overview of security in Android. He is going to talk about Android's flavour of Linux, the method used for sandboxing apps and the platform facilities for IPC. Most of this will be focused on the runtime portion of the OS (the application framework). He is also going to show a few examples how to study an already compiled application.
