This week the vaccination team from the University of Tartu Hospital will share information about coronavirus vaccinations on Car Free Avenue. The vaccination team will be present on July 27 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., on July 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on July 30 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The team can answer questions. It is possible to print out a digital vaccination certificate on site for those who have been vaccinated but do not have the opportunity to print one themselves.

We'd like to start teaching and studies in the autumn as normally as possible and meet face to face in class, and therefore it is important that as many of our new and returning students and university staff as possible are vaccinated. The nearest vaccination locations can be found on the website vaktsineeri.ee.

According to the respondents, the University of Tartu diploma is highly valued in the labour market, and high-level research is done and excellent education is offered at the university.

In the course of the research conducted by the crisis sociology team of the University of Tartu Institute of Social Studies, representatives of Estonian care facilities and nearly 60 clients of homeless shelters, soup kitchens and rehabilitation centres were interviewed to find out about their experiences during the coronavirus crisis.

The crisis sociology research group of the University of Tartu Institute of Social Studies and the Estonian Rescue Board have designed a tool helping to target rescue services and social assistance, as well as information, more effectively before and during emergencies.

Many personality traits are associated with health indicators, such as body mass index. Although personality traits are often believed to affect body mass index, there is little concrete evidence to that effect. Researchers who began to study such associations have come to quite unexpected conclusions.

To encourage researchers to apply for European Research Council grants, the Grant Office has developed and is piloting a 10,000-euro UT ERC Incentive Grant. Its purpose is to free up the applicant’s time for writing a research grant application. The first call for applications takes place in the autumn already and will involve up to 20 researchers.

University of Tartu Narva College and Swedbank have concluded a cooperation agreement to support the development of IT and entrepreneurship in Ida-Viru County. Within the cooperation, experts from Swedbank will be involved in teaching the curricula “Entrepreneurship and Digital Solutions” and “Information Technology Systems Development” of Narva College.

The graduation ceremonies of the University of Tartu are held from 15 to 30 June in person. In Tartu, the ceremonies take place on the square in front of the Old Anatomical Theatre. The graduation of Viljandi Culture Academy will take place as individual ceremonies that were well-received last year. In Narva, Pärnu and Tallinn, graduation ceremonies are held indoors.

The last stage in the study on the prevalence of coronavirus in Estonia led by the University of Tartu is conducted from 10 to 21 June. The study will give an overview of the prevalence of the coronavirus and the number of people with coronavirus antibodies in the adult population.

The University of Tartu School of Law continues its Tartu International Law Conversations. The seventh event of the series entitled “Multilateralism in Modern International Law” will take place online on 9 June 2021 at 16–17 (EEST, GMT+3). The aim of this series is to invite academics and practitioners from Estonia and abroad to talk about various aspects of international law. Depending on the circumstances, the events take place in person or online.

The university’s orienteering month – May – is about to end, but as the initiative has attracted much interest, the orienteering course will remain open until 6 June. The university invites all employees, students, alumni and their families as well everyone else to orienteering in the city of Tartu. Come to discover places where the university family has done exercise and sports since the early 19th century!

H.E. Ambassador Archil Karaulashvili will be giving an open lecture on Georgia’s foreign policy and perspectives for EU integration process.

Despite the government’s decision to allow face-to-face studies also in higher education starting from 17 May, the university continues work as previously planned. Decisions about the organisation of studies continue to be made by the head of institute in cooperation with the vice dean for academic affairs. The only change is that the requirement not to exceed 25% room capacity has been lifted. The allowed percentage of room capacity is to be decided by the head of institute.

This year marks a quarter of a century since the opening of the Pärnu College of the University of Tartu. On 14 May, this milestone is celebrated with a ceremony, an appreciation event and giving recognition, with presentations and discussion groups, and the symbolic opening of a part of the college building that has been newly renovated for a joint project.

Universities of four European countries and their partners from kindergartens launched the DigiKid project this week at a virtual kick-off meeting with the goal of more systematic application of digital pedagogy in pre-primary education. The project partners discussed, specified, and approved the project objectives, content, action plans and deadlines.

The University of Tartu School of Law continues its Tartu International Law Conversations. The sixth event of the series entitled “International Organisations as Agents of Constitutionalisation: From Neoliberalism to Postcolonialism?” will take place online on 21 May 2021 at 15–16 (EET, GMT+3).

The Office of Academic Affairs in cooperation with the Student Union have chosen the new course registration start time. Based on the results of the survey conducted, registration will start at 21:00.

Throughout May, the university invites all employees, students, alumni and their families to orienteering in the city of Tartu. The spring orienteering course, compiled by the university museum, focuses on places related to sports and recreation.
